Turf Fair Sees Growth

Jackson, Wisconsin – Milwaukee's Miller Park served as host to the 2010 Spring Valley Turf Fair this March 4th. The biennial event sponsored by Spring Valley aims to gather green industry professionals to inform, educate, and socialize amongst local industry leaders. Excellent weather conditions helped draw record attendance to the event this year. Well over 300 people attended the event that included seminars, a trade show, and Miller Park tours.

Former Milwaukee Brewer Sal Bando spoke after lunch on current trends in the MLB as well as recounting many stories from his career in. Bando played in the Majors for 15 years with three different franchises, including the Milwaukee Brewers. Bando was best known for his skills at third base, but did recount one story in particular when in 1979 he was called in for relief, pitching for 3 innings.

Seminar speakers during the Turf Fair were divided between Golf and Turf interests and spoke on numerous topics during the day. Dr. Jim Kerns and Charlene Khazae both brought attendees up to speed with the latest in Fungal Research and Fertilizer Trends, respectively. Jerry Quinn spoke about Nutrient Technology Partner's Metabolic Catalyst technology, N-Lite, that will help users apply less fertilizer without losing any benefits of traditional fertilizer. Dr. Soldat with UW-Madison also hit the topic of fertilizer efficiency in his seminar titled Keeping it Green with Less Nitrogen. Melinda Meyers was also in attendance delivering a very popular and well attended talk about landscaping in difficult situations.

Attendees enjoyed the unique location of Miller Park for the event. With opening day just around the corner the location provided added excitement for the upcoming spring season. In all the 2010 Turf Fair was dubbed a success with everyone looking forward to the next Fair in 2012.
