When urea nitrogen is left untreated its greatest fate and most immediate loss, sometimes in excess of 30% within days of the application, is through the air. Additional nitrogen (up to 20% more) can be lost through leaching and dentrification. Fertilizers with Regain- NS controls the enzyme (urease) that causes ammonia volatilization, keeping it from robbing valuable nitrogen from the soil.
